France: 13 actions implemented during 10 years for saving 38 butterflies species National Action Plans (NAPs) are strategic tools from the French Ministry in charge of biodiversity issues. They are intended to ensure the maintenance or restoration of populations of endangered species or species of special interest in a favorable conservation status. In a legal framework, the NAPs then organize the preservation of these species by implementing a voluntary and structuring approach.The overall objective of this plan and its regional implementations is to safeguard the butterflies through specific measures to stop the direct causes of their disappearance (fertilization, drying, destruction of their habitat, damage to dispersal abilities, pesticides ...) starting with the issues concerning the species considered as the most "patrimonial" (threatened and / or protected).This plan requires the mobilisation of all, both public authorities (State services, local authorities) and rural stakeholders (farmers, farmers, foresters ...), managers of spaces and / or natural resources (quarry operators, owners, riparians ...) encouraging them to favor appropriate management for the conservation of the target species. Finally, considering the "bioindicator" qualities of butterflies, this plan target all naturalist citizens wishing to contribute to a better collection of scientific information. Researchers should be also interested in better detailed assessment of practices related to butterfly preservation.
