Rediscovering of the Small Wood Bee Xylocopa iris (Christ, 1791) (Hypenoptera: Apidae, Xylocopinae) in Germany and current observations in the Alsace. The Small Carpenter Bee, Xylocopa iris, was rediscovered in Baden-Württemberg, after it was last seen in 1957. It is known from 6 localities of the Upper Rhine plain and on the edge of the Vosges. The species lives in dry-warm vineyard sites with bushes and dry grasslands. It is reported on observations on nesting in stalks of biannual plants and the visit of flowers. A recent expansion is possible due to climate change. Protective measures are necessary for the species in order to improve the offer for nesting sites.
